Discover Kashmiri Saffron
From a valley where time moves slowly and traditions run deep — this is the story of the world's most precious spice.
2,500 Years In The Making
Pampore, a quiet town in the heart of Kashmir, has been growing saffron for over 2,500 years. It sits 1,600 metres above sea level, surrounded by the Himalayas, where the cold autumn air and the ancient karewa soil create conditions that exist nowhere else on Earth.
This is one of the very few regions in the world capable of growing this exact grade of saffron. When you hold a Kasmirana thread, you hold a piece of this valley.
A Flower That Blooms For Just Two Weeks
The Crocus sativus blooms once a year, for just 15 days. Each flower yields only three delicate stigmas — the threads we call saffron.
150 Flowers, 1 Gram
Roughly 150 flowers must be hand-picked and their stigmas gently separated to yield a single gram of saffron.
No Machines, No Shortcuts
Every stigma is separated by hand, one flower at a time — a craft passed down through generations.
A 15-Day Window
The entire harvest happens between late October and early November — miss it, and the year's crop is gone.
The Journey Of A Thread
Picked Before Sunrise
Farmers enter the fields before dawn, when crocin levels inside the stigma are at their highest.
Separated By Hand
Each flower is opened gently and its three crimson stigmas separated from the petals, one by one.
Dried With Patience
Fresh stigmas are laid on fine mesh trays and dried slowly at low heat — a balance learned over generations.
Tested And Sealed
Every batch is independently lab-tested. Only threads meeting ISO Category I standards are sealed and shipped.
Three Grades. Kasmirana Sells Only The Highest.
Mongra
Only the deep-red tips of the stigma — no yellow, no white. The most concentrated grade, highest in crocin, safranal and picrocrocin.
Lacha
The full stigma with red and yellow parts attached. Genuine, but lower in potency — often sold elsewhere as "premium."
Gucchi
The entire stigma including the white style. Mild in colour, weak in flavour — the market's cheapest genuine grade.
Trust, Proven In Every Batch
100% Mongra Grade
